Al Capone's Modified Gangster Cadillac

Alphonse Gabriel Capone, also known as Al Capone or “Scarface” was the owner of this bulletproof 1928 Cadillac involved in many Gangster affiliations. Based in Chicago, Al was a crime boss and infamous mobster who reigned for seven years. What’s special about his 1928 Cadillac is the features included to help him live as a gangster and businessman.

This Cadillac contained 1-inch thick bulletproof glass in all the windows and additional steel plating adding 3,000 pounds to the car's weight. The side windows were able to be cranked up to allow a 2-inch gap for gunmen to laterally shoot a Thompson submachine gun. The back window opened up, allowing for rear firing. Capone had the V8 modified to boost its top speed to 110 MPH, making it easier to make an escape.

The car was disguised as a police car, containing the same design as a Chicago police car, a siren, flashing lights, and a police radio. This made it extremely difficult for law enforcement to identify the difference between a car full of gangsters or policemen.

After being tucked away in a Chicago garage, a family bought the Cadillac with the intention of using it as a rolling exhibition to make money in the winter. Once that plan fell through, the car was transferred around to multiple museums. Today it is being offered for sale for a small chunk of a million dollars.p
